Handwritten letter written on board RMS Carpathia dated 15 August 1912 with original Cunard envelope. Dear Papa and boys... we were delayed by boarding a large cargoe (sic) of spaghetti... This is rather a poor ship. No distinguished people aboard and seemingly no interesting ones. It is a sight to see the emigrants the men without families at one end, 7 they are as thick as the fingers on ones hand - mostly Greeks - they are good natured and sing and play games; some of the people in the rooms below, slept in the parlor (sic) numerous for comfort, and their rooms fearfully hot, but we have a lovely room. Plenty fresh air and no rugs... last night a lady from Kansas and I had a long talk with the Captain. This is his first run since the rescue of the Titanic. He is very simple and modest, and said he found in the dictionary the meaning of Titanic was a race of men vainly trying to overcome nature... tell the boys no pretty girls on and a very dull company. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
