It was originally opened by the Gateshead Union in 1912 as a TB sanatorium (far right of picture), with accommodation for elderly and infirm workhouse inmates added later (upper half of picture). The site later became a "mental defectives colony". During World War Two, Emergency Medical Scheme wards were erected (lower part of picture)

The administrative offices of Camberwell St Giles Hospital, formerly part of the Camberwell workhouse on Havil Street, now St Giles Road, south east London. The offices themselves fronted onto Brunswick Road (now Brunswick Villas). The first workhouse buildings on the site dated from 1818, but from the 1870s its medical facilities greatly expanded. It later became St Giles Hospital

The South Eastern Fever Hospital was opened in 1877 on Avonley Road at New Cross, near Deptford in south east London. It was the fifth such hospital to be erected by the Metropolitan Asylums Board which in 1869 became responsible for certain classes of the sick poor in metropolitan London. The site later became New Cross General Hospital, then New Cross Hospital
