Photograph: A well-concealed Bren Gunner of the 7th Gurkha Rifles amongst the thick foliage of the Burmese jungle, 1944 (c). The soldier depicted was probably a member of the 1st Battalion, part of 48th Indian Infantry Brigade of 17th Indian Division. The latter had the distinction of being almost continually in combat during the three-year long Burma Campaign.From a photograph album of 63 photographs presented to The Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, by the officers, 7th Gurkha Rifles. Date: circa 1944

Photograph: Normandy: The advance to Troarn. Although thick mud is holding up operations in the Caen sector, a double blow by British and Canadian tanks and infantry has led to the capture of half of Troarn (22/7/44). Shows two British soldiers in position between Banneville La Campagne and Troarn. They are Pte S Clarke of Morley, Leeds and Pte H Leech of Prescott Street, Liverpool. Picture issued July 1944. Animals at a French Zoo - Sealion

Animals at a French Zoo - Sealion - Colour. Sealion and keeper. Part of Box 209 Boswell collection - Old and New French Zoo. Sea lions are sea mammals characterized by external ear flaps, long foreflippers, the ability to walk on all fours, and short, thick hair. Together with the fur seals they comprise the family Otariidae, eared seals, which contains six extant and one extinct species (the Japanese sea lion) in five genera. Their range extends from the subarctic to tropical waters of the global ocean in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, with the notable exception of the northern Atlantic Ocean Date: circa 1900
