Framed Print of Samuel Cody assorted memorabilia
EARLY AVIATION PIONEERS - THE SAMUEL CODY ARCHIVE: Extremely important Royal Aero Club Aviators Certificate No.9, 1910, issued to S. F. Cody on 7th June 1910 and signed by the Club's Chairman, brown leather covers, together with a receipt for the fee of £1?1-0, June 11th 1910 plus Aviator's Certificate Number 9 from the Federation Aeronautique Internationale dated 14th June 1910. In 1910 the Royal Aero Club decided to give certificates of proficiency to pilots, the first two being J. T. C. Moore-Brabazon and Hon. Charles Stewart Rolls co-founder of Rolls Royce. The influence of the Club in those early days cannot be overemphasised. Its members included and trained most military pilots up to 1915, when military schools took over. The gift of training facilities and aircraft to the Royal Navy by Francis McLean was the real starting point of the Royal Naval Air Service. From 1910 the Club, which had been granted the Royal prefix that year for its achievements and status, issued Aviators Certificates, internationally recognised under the FAI. The lot also includes a photograph of Cody in flight, a rare publicity flyer for a lecture he conducted on Aviation on 15th December 1908 and a copy of the Royal Aircraft Establishment News bearing the headline Samuel Franklin A Great Pioneer. Date: 1908-1910. Mary Evans Picture Library makes available wonderful images created for people to enjoy over the centuries. © Henry Aldridge & Son Ltd. / Mary Evans
