The Royal Logistic Corps (RLC) was formed in 1993, by the union of the following British Army corps: Royal Corps of Transport, Royal Army Ordnance Corps, Royal Pioneer Corps, Army Catering Corps and the Royal Engineers Postal and Courier Service. Blanchard and Jeffries crossing English Channel
Jean-Pierre Blanchard and Dr John Jeffries crossing the English Channel by balloon. They left Dover, crossed the sea, and landed near Blanay, between Calais and Boulogne. It was the first aerial crossing of the English Channel. Pictured is the French coast at Calais, with jubilant spectators, ships and boats.

Mercedes Gleitze (1900-1981) - British professional swimmer
Mercedes Gleitze (1900-1981) - British professional swimmer. She was the first person to swim the Straits of Gibraltar and the first British woman to swim the English Channel. All the funds from the sale of this specific postcard were donated to the Mercedes Gleitze Fund for Destitute Men and Women to establish a home for those in poverty. The name of Mercedes Gleitze was used to market Rolex's new waterproof case, the "Oyster". Date: circa 1930
