Caricature of W E Gladstone (1809-1898), Liberal Prime Minister, and his son Herbert (1854-1930). The Grand Old Man cautions his son. Herbert was elected Liberal MP for Leeds in 1880, and became a junior Lord of the Treasury in 1881. Gladstone senior is annoyed that his son has been talking too freely about Ireland in his absence.
