Shirley Bain-Marais (1921-?) by Madame Yevonde. She was the daughter of Colonel Colin Bain-Marais, South African Minister to France. She and her parents escaped France by sardine boat from Bordeaux when the armistice with Germany was signed; they were rescued by a British destroyer and brought to England. Date: 1940
