RMS Titanic - signet ring recovered by CS Mackay-Bennett
RMS Titanic - from inventory of items recovered from bodies by cable ship Mackay-Bennett - an 18 carat gold and small old-cut diamond solitaire band/signet ring, slightly tapering (1/4ins. - 5/16ins.), star-gypsy set at the front with a small old-cut diamond measuring approximately 3/32ins. diameter and 1/16ins. deep, estimated to weigh approximately 0.07 carats (calculated), the band with hallmarks for Birmingham 1911, sponsor's mark W.D in a double lobe for William Davies and with a stock number 7799, the band is approximately 1/32ins. thick 1/16ins. The gold has a slight rose-gold tint and is inset with a piece of slightly more yellow gold at the back of the shank to make the ring larger: this yellow section is approx 5/16ins. long overall, the ring is currently finger size W (leading edge), there is also evidence of some original crude engraving inside the shank, though this is now indecipherable.
