Framed Print of Captain John Treasure Jones Archive - two items
Captain John Treasure Jones Archive. Born and raised on a small farm in Pembrokeshire, South Wales, John Treasure Jones (1905-1993) went to sea at the age of 15. For the first four years he was indentured as an apprentice on tramp steamers. In 1929 he joined the White Star Line, then in 1937 he joined the Cunard White Star Line. During the Second World War he served as a commander in the Royal Naval Reserve, was torpedoed in the Atlantic and mentioned twice in despatches. He rejoined Cunard in 1947, commanding several Cunard liners including Saxonia, Mauretania and Queen Elizabeth. He served as the last commander of the RMS Queen Mary from 1965, taking her on her last voyage in 1967 from Southampton to her retirement home in Long Beach, California. His autobiography, Tramp to Queen, was published posthumously in 2008. Seen here is a signed photo of the Queen Mary and a menu.
