Baggage Label for the Cunard Line

A fine example of a luggage label - a bag label for the Cunard Line, featuring a picture of the RMS Mauretania. According to the notes on the reverse of this tag, the baggage attached to this particular label was destined for the hold on a journey from New York to Southampton, sailing on 1st November 1933 on the RMS Aquitania. The passenger (Miss Alberta Agnes Sharpe) is detailed as a Tourist, residing on Deck C, Stateroom no.141, bed B!

Cunard Wharf, Boston

Cunard Wharf within Boston Harbour was owned by the Cunard Line Company who had been awarded the first British Trans Atlantic steamship mail contract in 1839. Cunard held the Blue ribbon for its Trans Atlantic cruise ship crossings between 1909-1929 with its Mauretania vesel. It was the sinking of her running mate Lusitania in 1915 that caused the United States to enter WW1. Cunard were responsible for building both luxury cruisers the Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth (QE).
