Almshouses, Stratford-On-Avon
This etching shows figures standing outside the Almshouses, a group of 15th century buildings in Church Street, Stratford-Upon-Avon, Warwickshire. They were constructed between 1417 and 1428 under the Guild of the Holy Cross, for the purpose of housing the needy members of the guild. The first floor rooms were used for teaching from 1560, by the King's New School, and was probably attended by William Shakespeare as a child. Date: circa 1920
