Leicester Great Fire, church destroyed
The most disastrous fire ever known in Leicester broke out on a Thursday evening in Queen Street, and a series of warehouses and large factories were destroyed. St Georges Church was completely gutted. The fire started in a factory and soon spread to neighbouring buildings. Seen here is a fireman playing his hose on the remains of the church, which was completely destroyed.
