Engraving of a trial of various anchor designs, held at the Royal Dockyard Sheerness, from the Illustrated London News, 17th July 1852. This trial was held in the presence of mercantile shipowners and an Admiralty committee, in order to test the holding power of a number of anchors. These included the New Admiralty, Aylen s, Rodger s, Mitcheson s, Honibal s, Isaac s, Lenoxs and Trotmans improved Porter anchor. Trotmans anchor was declared the winner
