Cartoon in Punch magazine entitled Discipline. The blackboard reads France ought to have Alsace-Lorraine Carl referring to the German suspicions that in March 1917 a secret message was sent from Emperor Karl I of Austria via Prince Sixte de Bourbon to French President Poincar頰 romising support for the French claims to Alsace-Lorraine. This message was published by the French government in April 1918. In the cartoon, Carl Hapsburg exclaims " Please, Sir, I didn t write it" and Dr. Hohenzollern retorts, " For the credit of the school I shall publicly accept your denial. All the same, my boy, you will now step into my private room". Date: 1918
