Laden with letters from anxious enquiries from relatives. A Japanese postman amongst the ruins of where the house were once situated. The catastrophic earthquake that hit Tokyo and neighbouring town Yokohama in 1923. The earthquake occurred at midday on the 1st of September, at time when many people were preparing their meals. Fires spread destroying everything that the earthquake had left. The death toll rose to over 70000, with many more people left homeless. Date: 1924
