Yokohama Earthquake, Japan - Remains of CPR Shipping Offices

The aftermath of the earthquake in Yokohama, Japan - remains of CPR (Canadian Pacific Railway) Shipping Offices and Jetty. The Great Kanto earthquake, Japan - which struck on 1st September 1923. This earthquake devastated Tokyo, the port city of Yokohama, and the surrounding prefectures of Chiba, Kanagawa, and Shizuoka, and caused widespread damage throughout the Kanto region. Estimated casualties totalled about 142, 800 deaths, including about 40, 000 who went missing and were presumed dead. Date: 1923

Slide showing a photograph of the view from the arsenal at Port Royal. Port Royal was a city located at the end of the Palisadoes at the mouth of the Kingston Harbour, in south-eastern Jamaica. Founded in 1518, it was the centre of shipping commerce in the Caribbean Sea during the latter half of the 17th century. It was destroyed by an earthquake in 1692 and subsequent fires, hurricanes, flooding, and another earthquake in 1907.. Part of Box 108. Boswell Collection. Slide number 50. Jamaica, officially the Commonwealth of Jamaica, is an island nation of the Greater Antilles, situated in the Caribbean Sea. Jamaica - Kings House Grounds, Kingston

Slide showing a photograph of the grounds of the King's House (also known as Government House) is the official residence of the Governor-General of Jamaica, who represents the Jamaican Monarch, and head of state. When Kingston became the capital of Jamaica in 1872, a new official residence (called King's House) was constructed at the former home of the Anglican Lord Bishop of the Diocese of Jamaica. This house was destroyed by an earthquake in 1907. Kingston is the capital and largest city of Jamaica, located on the south-eastern coast of the island facing a natural harbour.
