It was the inspiration for the childrens classic, The Secret Garden, by Frances Hodgson Burnett, who lived there between 1898 and 1907. Burnett restored the neglected garden and planted hundreds of roses. Seen here is an array of flowers at the side of a pathway, with a flight of steps at the top
