Engraving from a photograph of Empress Maria Feodorovna, later Dowager Tsaritsa, formerly Princess Dagmar of Denmark (1847-1928), wife of Tsar Alexander III, sister of Queen Alexandra and mother of Tsar Nicholas II. The dress Maria Feodorovna is wearing in this photo survives to this day. Made by the couturier Worth of Paris in maroon velvet with a carnation pattern embroidered in shades of gold, it was included in an exhibition of nineteenth-century costume in the State Hermitage in 1993.
