Two Shades of Pink by David Wright, showing a model hold up an evening gown. Wright produced a series of over 160 illustrations or 'pin-ups' for 'The Sketch' during the 1940's. David Wright's 'Lovelies' proved hugely popular and adorned practically every military mess, bunker, dormitory or club room in the country during World War II.

HMS Marlborough was an Iron Duke-class battleship of the British Royal Navy, named in honour of John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough. Built at Devonport Royal Dockyard between January 1912 and June 1914 and entered service just prior to First World War. Assigned to the Mediterranean Fleet after the war, Marlborough took part in the Allied intervention in the Russian Civil War (in the Black Sea 191920). She was also involved in the Greco-Turkish War. Bath Characters by Edouart - Thomas McDermott

Thomas McDermott, a native of County Cavan, Northern Ireland, who was born without hands or feet, 1793. Inventor and manufacturer of fancy flower vases, candle shades and hand screens by which means he obtained a livelihood for himself, wife and four children. Silhouette taken by August Edouart on April 11th 1827, one of a series of Bath characters he met and observed. Date: 1827
