A portrait of Sultan Hussein Kamel of Egypt (1853-1917), who ruled from 1914-1917, during the British protectorate. On either side of him is a poem by Sidney Low, entitled The Martyrs, mourning the deaths of civilians in the German bombardment of Hartlepool, Whitby and Scarborough on 16 December 1914, during the First World War.
