Suffragette N. W. S. P. U Regalia Ribbon
N.W.S.P.U regalia or ribbon, produced for the Great Womens Sunday Demonstration, 21st June 1908, in Hyde Park. Mrs. Pethick-Lawrence was responsible for choosing the colours - purple, white and green, and for designing the regalia. The Speakers brooch is made in white moire or watered silk with purple and green bow at the top, the word, Speaker is woven in green and the letters, N.W.S.P.U are woven in purple. These are encircled by a gold metal wreath of laurels, representing victory. The ribbon was made by Toye & Co. of Theobalds Road, London, specialists in medals, uniforms and masonic regalia.
