Suffragette N. W. S. P. U Regalia Ribbon
N.W.S.P.U regalia or ribbon, produced for the Great Womens Sunday Demonstration, 21st June 1908, in Hyde Park. Mrs. Pethick-Lawrence was responsible for choosing the colours - purple, white and green, and for designing the regalia. The Chief Marshals ribbon badge is in white moire silk, with purple and green bow at the top, the words, Chief Marshal woven in green, and N.W.S.P.U woven in purple. The letters are encircled by a gold metal wreath of laurels, representing victory. The ribbon was made by Toye & Co. 57, Theobalds Road, London. On Womens Sunday there were 9 Chief Marshals deployed. Seven were responsible for the seven processions which left from seven assembly points to march to Hyde Park. Two more were responsible for the whole event and for looking after the railway stations where a huge number would arrive and depart. Date: 1908
