Montgolfier balloon ascent, Versailles
Ascent of the Montgolfier balloon from Versailles, viewed by the King, the Royal Family and a large crowd of spectators. The balloon flew for eight minutes, then descended in the Bois de Vaucresson, Carrefour Marechal. The passengers were a sheep, a cockerel and a duck, who survived the experience unharmed.
