The Pyhthoness

The Phythoness, was the event of when the Pythia, more commonly known as the Oracle of Delphi, would sit on a tripod interpreting her divination. The Oracle or Pythia was the name given to any priestess whom was working in the Temple of Apollo. In regards to this illustration the priestess appears to be in agony, whilst she is surrounded by other prophets. The location in which they are in is the Temple of Apollo, which was located in Delphi. Date: 8 B.C
