United States Navy - Pratt-Read XLNE-1 31506, competition #32, at Harris Hill, Elmira, NY in 1946 for the first US soaring contest held after WWII. In the background is Pratt-Read LNE-1 31507, the only other LNE glider to be assembled of the 79 ordered. This aircraft also flew in the contest and had a fatal accident on 17 August 1946. The LNE-1s and XLNE-1 were Built by the Gould Aeronautical Division of the Pratt-Read Piano Company of Deep River, Connecticut as military versions of the PR-G1 side-by-side primary glider trainer. The remaining aircraft were transferred to the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and United States Army Air Force (USaF) as the TG-32, but the majority remained unassembled until disposed of to the civilian market. 31506 ws sold in Canada as CF-ZCC, returned to the US as N4476U. Currently on exhibit at Wings of Eagles Discovery Center (formerly National Warplane Museum) Elmira Corning RAP, NY. Date: circa 1946
