Catalonia, Les Garrigues, Lleida province, La Floresta
Spain, Catalonia, Les Garrigues, Lleida province, La Floresta. Ice well dating from the 14th-16th centuries. A stone construction with a truncated cone shape and a dome with a capacity of 150 cubic metres. It was used to store natural ice obtained from rivers and streams with the aim of selling it, mainly sold in spring and summer. The people in charge of transporting the ice were merchants and they also distributed it to the main villages in the surrounding area. The importance of the ice increased when some curative properties were associated with it and when people saw that it was useful for preserving food such as meat and fish. View of the interior
