Montage of sketches by Helen McKie showing the careful rebuilding and restoration of towns in France devastated during the First World War. 1 - centre image - Workmen on one of the old houses in the Grand Place at Arras. Many of the picturesque houses of the 16th century were partially destroyed and great care was taken to preserve them as close to the original. 2. The new Lens. The whole countryside a mass of new houses - everywhere the work of rapid reconstruction in progress though the marks of war are still seen in the form of disused huts, ruins, unused shells and barbed wire. 3. Planting new trees along the road where nothing but the dead stumps of old ones remains. 4. In one of the old sleeping huts converted into an estaminet for workmen. Date: 1922

Something new in salad'. Salad making gives full scope to your powers of invention. For almost all vegetables are at home in the salad bowl, and you can try them in almost endless combinations. A crisp salad, as appetising to look at as it is to taste, is a very important item in the day's meals. Raw green vegetables are one of the riches sources of vitamin c. You'll remember that this is the vitamin that helps so much to give clear skin, bright eyes and that feeling of vigour which makes life enjoyable.
