Framed Print of The Bordeaux Challenge, 1283. Peter III of Aragon
The Bordeaux Challenge. On December 1282 Charles of Anjou (1227-1285) challenged Peter III of Aragon (1240-1285) to a duel. A judgement of God would take place in Bordeaux on 1 June 1283 to settle the war for the throne of Sicily. One hundred knights would accompany each side, under the supervision of the King of England. Charles of Anjou believed that Peter III would not attend, so he would claim victory, or if he did, the French army of his nephew, King Philip III of France, would capture him. Peter III sensed the trap and went to Bordeaux on the eve of the appointed date, disguised as a squire. He went to a notary in the city to certify his appearance and the ambush that was being prepared against him, and then left. Peter III of Aragon in the arena at Bordeaux Engraving by Serra Pausas. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
