Original Royal Navy typewritten message, dated 23 May 1941 regarding the movements of the German battleship Bismarck and a Cruiser as they left the port of Bergen to take part in the massive naval battle which led to its sinking on 27 May 1941. the message reads Bismarck and Hipper Class cruiser which were anchored in the vicinity of Bergen at 13.30 on Wednesday were reported 18.00 yesterday to have left 0946 P.L. Sem Tor 0955 23.5.41 Full. Provenance: From a relation who served on the Aircraft Carrier HMS Victorious, one of the two that took part in the hunt. HMS Victorious only played a small part, but one of its aircraft managed to hit it with a Torpedo. Date: 1941
