The determined-looking ladies of the South football team who played the North team at the in the opening match of the British Ladies Football Club at Nightingale Lane ground at Crouch End in March 1895. The Sketch magazine was not terribly positive about their abilities and claimed the ten thousand spectators were only there to satisfy their curiosity
