Mary Winchester
A portrait of Mary Winchester (1865 - 1955), who in 1871 was captured and held hostage by the Mizo people of Mizoram, north-eastern India (then called the Lushai Hills). Her father was killed during the raid in which she was captured, in January 1871. Generally well-cared for while in captivity, she was released in January 1872 and returned to her grandparents in Scotland. Date: 1872
