Lady Lavery - A Self-Portrait
Hazel, Lady Lavery (1886 - 1935), formerly Hazel Martyn and second wife of the celebrated portrait Sir John Lavery who painted her portrait hundreds of times. A renowned beauty, she was also a talented artist in her own right a this self-portrait, entitled, The Lilac Muslin proves. The accompanying text in The Sketch magazine mentions that she had been ill for a long time. She died on 1 January 1935, less than four months after this portrait was published. Date: 1934
