Grand canoe reception on the St Lawrence River
Grand canoe reception given to the Prince of Wales (later Edward VII) on the St Lawrence river during his visit to Canada in 1860. Whilst the Prince was at Montreal, he made several trips to places of interest in the neighbourhood, including Dorval Island in the St Lawrence, where the Hudsons Bay Company gave him a canoe reception. Ten canoes manned by Indians of the Iroquois tribe, in the employ of the Hudsons Bay Company, met the Prince as he crossed to the island from the village of Lachine
