London by Night - Looking for Zeppelins - Londoners take up the highest viewpoints they can to search the skies for these new miracles of aviation. A few years later (early 1915 onwards) they would be scanning the skies with far more concern and trepidation as Zeppelins launched aerial bombing raids on the UK during the First World War. Joseph Chamberlain aboard a small rowing boat ('The Orchid'), propelled by John Bull, peering toward the Unknown Land through a telescope. The caption reads: Mr Chamberlain at Glasgow: "I take up the position of a Pioneer." This may relate to Chamberlain being unsure of how his views on Free Trade would be taken north of the border. Date: 1905
