Construction of the Queensway Mersey Tunnel
The Queensway tunnel is a road tunnel under the River Mersey, between Liverpool and Birkenhead. Construction began in 1925. Designed by consulting engineer Sir Basil Mott, who also supervised the construction with John Brodie, City engineer of Liverpool. 1700 men worked on the tunnel, of which 17 were killed. Date: 1925-1934
