The Flag Lieutenant by Major WP Drury and Leo Trevor
The Flag Lieutenant by Major W P Drury and Leo Trevor, first produced at the Playhouse Theatre in London in 1908. After extensive touring in regional theatres in 1909, this poster was produced for the revival at the Haymarket Theatre in London on 28th November 1914. The outbreak of war would have inspired the revival of this patriotic play. Writing about this revival George Jean Nathan American drama critic said the play was obviously produced only because some London matinee idol fancied the way he looked in a naval uniform and because some unimaginative playwright thought it would be a fine idea to have a brass band play the national anthem off-stage before the curtain fell. The House of Satan (1926). Date: 1914
