Active Service - WW1 knitting postcard by Harold Copping
Postcard from the First World War depicting a woman knitting comforts for soldiers (note the khaki coloured wool), and gazing wistfully into the distance, no doubt hoping that her own soldier will make it back to Blighty unharmed. Knitting comforts for troops was one way in which women could take part in the war effort, and patterns for various items including hats, mittens, mufflers and waistcoats appeared in womens magazines of the period. Date: 1914-1918
