In February 1917, when the ground was sodden with slush and snow everywhere, work had to be still done, making or capturing trenches, attention had to be paid to keep the mens feet clear of wet as possible. Top photograph: fatigue party crossing the ice from the reserve store depots where " bath-mats" where keeped, to put on the trenches floor. Bottom photograph: British artillerymen off duty round their chalk-labelled gun, with three French comredes seated. Date: February 1917
