The Wapping Concert

The Wapping Concert
A satire on Madame Mara, a concert singer. She sang at the Handel Commemoration in Westminster Abbey in 1784 and 1785. She had rickets in her childhood - hence Le Genou Inflexible, or (Stiff Knee) - and never completely recovered, often needing to sit during performances. The print is a mock advertisement: Madam Mary informs her Friends & the Public in General, that she has opened her Winter Concert at the Hog in Armour, Wapping, in a large Commodious room belonging to the Free Masons
