Jean-Pierre Blanchard and Dr John Jeffries crossing the English Channel by balloon. They left Dover, crossed the sea, and landed near Blanay, between Calais and Boulogne. It was the first aerial crossing of the English Channel. Pictured is the French coast at Calais, with jubilant spectators, ships and boats.

During his departure, Casanova is struck by a stone by a child who then begins to point and laugh due to his strange appearance. Casanova became a librarian in 1785 to Count Joseph Karl von Waldstein, a chamberlain of the emperor, in the Castle of Dux, Bohemia. Date: 1785
