Vesta Tilley (stage name of Matilda Alice Powles, 1864-1952), later Lady de Frece, music hall entertainer, best known for her male impersonations. Seen here dressed up as a midshipman during the First World War. She was known as Englands best recruiting sergeant due to her patriotic and persuasive stage act. Date: c.1915
