Toenga, the only daughter of the celebrated Waraurangi, the most powerful chief of the Nga-ti-maru tribe, formerly inhabiting the Great Barrier Island, north of the mouth of Hauraki Gulf, near the frith of the Thames. Toenga wears a garland of Clematis, which is indigenous to New Zealand forests and a foreign (Western) hat, bought at a European store in Auckland.
