Sugar Mill, Jamaica
Wall Art and Photo Gifts from Mary Evans Picture Library
Sugar Mill, Jamaica
Sugar cane is fed into grooved iron rollers that crush the cane, producing cane juice. The juice runs down the grooves into a cistern, from where it travels via a pipe to the boiling-house. The waste material produced, known as megass, is collected and dried, ultimately to be used as fuel for the furnaces of the boiling-house
