The German armoured cruiser, SMS Yorck, mined near Wilhelmshaven during the First World War, and lying on her side with a few survivors standing on top. After returning from a raid on Great Yarmouth, the ship lost its way in thick fog and accidentally sailed into a German minefield. Date: 4 November 1914
