Sami People - Display at Skansen, Sweden
Traditional homes of the Sami peoples (also spelled Saami and also known as Lapps, although this term is considered derogatory), an arctic indigenous people inhabiting Sapmi, which today encompasses parts of far northern Sweden, Norway, Finland and the Kola Peninsula of Russia. This, however, is Skansen, the first open air museum and zoo in Sweden, located on the island Djurgarden in Stockholm. It was founded in 1891 by Artur Hazelius (1833-1901) to show the way of life in the different parts of Sweden before the industrial era. Date: circa 1900
