Royal bridesmaid - Hon. Diamond Hardinge

Diamond Evelyn Violet Hardinge (1900 - 1927), daughter of Charles Hardinge, 1st Baron Hardinge of Penshurst, married name Abercromby. Diamond was one of the eight bridesmaids attending Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon for her marriage to Prince Albert, Duke of York on 26 April 1923 at West minster Abbey. At the time she was engaged herself to be married to Captain Robert Abercromby of the Scots Guards. Having lost her mother as a teenager, Diamond acted as hostess at the British Embassy in Paris during her father's term of office there and, according to The Sketch, is a very charming girl'. Royal Wedding 1923 - the bridal gown

Photographs of the bridal gown and bridesmaid's dress worn at the wedding of Prince Albert, Duke of York to Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon at Westminster Abbey on 26 April 1923. The wedding dress, designed by Handley Seymour was medieval in style, of moire mousseline with a knife pleated train and centred silver lame, stiffly fringed with pearls and silver beads. The train of old Nottingham lace was a gift from Queen Mary. The bridesmaid dresses were of ivory chiffon over crepe de Chine with floating panels of chiffon, appliqued leaves of silver lame and girdled silver foliage, caught at one side with an Anglo-Scottish posy.
