When the balloon was almost over the Albert Memorial in Kensington Gardens this photograph was taken in the southern direction. It shows in one picture most of the Governments buildings at South Kensington. The two long roads to the right and left of the photograph are Queens Gate and Exhibition Road respectively. Between them commencing from the bottom of the photograph are the Albert Hall, Royal School of Music, London University, Imperial College of Science and Technology and the Natural History Museum. Towards the left of the photograph is the new Victoria and Albert Museum. The balloon was travelling at the rate of 35 to 40 miles per hour. 11 July 1909, 6.27 pm. Altitude 1, 900ft. Balloon Britannia. Date: 1909
