Two prize winners at a Leek Show displaying their impressive vegetables alongside a couple of equally impressive mantel clocks, presumably their prizes. The North East tradition of growing leeks and other large vegetables has its roots in the regions mining heritage, when it offered pitmen a welcome hobby out in the fresh air. In recent years, there has been a decline in leek shows, once a vibrant part of North Eastern heritage and community. Date: c.1910
