Republic XP-91 Thunderceptor 46-0681 4 May 1949: 0680 (1st prototype) first flight. 14 October 1949: 0681 first flight. Summer 1951:engine failed on take-off summer 1951 at Edwards AFB, requiring an immediate landing, the pilot exited the burning airframe just as the tail melted off. 0681 was then fitted with a butterfly tail, for further flight testing and later scrapped. Date: circa 1950
