Sancho Davila y Daza (1523-1583)
Sancho Davila y Daza (Avila, 1523-Lisbon, 1583). Spanish military, so-called Rayo de la Guerra (Ray of War). He fought against the Turks under the command of the Duke of Alba. He also fought in Flanders and seized Antwerp in 1576. Felipe II entrusted him with the surveillance of the coasts of Granada in 1578. In the campaign of Portugal he was general of confidence of the Duke of Alba. He took part in the battle of Alcantara (August 25, 1580). Illustration by Llanta. Lithograph.
